Summary

A post-medieval pond is visible on the Heritage Tithe Map, 1st, 2nd, 3rd edition, and Modern OS maps at Smallhythe Place, Tenterden. The pond was excavated during a watching brief carried out in 2017, however, no dateable finds were recovered from the feature.

Full Description

A post-medieval pond is visible on the Heritage Tithe Map, 1st, 2nd, 3rd edition, and Modern OS maps. (1, 2, 3)

The pond was excavated during a watching brief carried out in 2017, however, no dateable finds, features or deposits were recovered from the feature, possibly as a result of disturbance cuased by roots. The feature measured 13m in length by 8m in width with a depth of approximately 1.2m. The deposit sequence comprised natural Wadhurst Clay overlain by alluvial clay and topsoil. (4)
