Full Description
Staplehurst Advanced Landing Ground, Kent, TQ 810 432. It was opened in 1943 and used by Canadian airmen. Later in the winter of 1943-1944 the airfield was improved. At the time of D day it was used by the 363rd Fighter Group of the United States Army 9th Air Force. Prior to the assault they attacked communications targets and on D day escorted glisers. The site was derequisitioned in October 1944 and was officially disposed of in 1945, subsequently the site was used for agriculture. (1)
Staplehurst Advanced Landing Ground, Kent, TQ 808 433. The airfield comprised two landing strips of Sommerfeld track steel matting and a tented camp for personnel. There were no aircraft hangars. (2)
