Full Description

Vertical Datum: LAT 15-FEB-1988 Large wooden vessel, from which a large steering oar [rudder] is reported to have been recovered and which probably indicates that the wreck is from medieval period (Marsden, Nautical Museums Trust). Large old wooden wreck in 50 52 24N, 000 50 18E. Known by local fishermen as ROBIN HOOD. Wooden beams span up to 3m out of the seabed and iron cannon have been sighted. Over 100ft long and lies in 10m of water. (2) 14-DEC-1990 Dived on in 50 53 34N, 000 49 43E. Thought to be of 19th century construction. Has 36m run of substantial deck beams. Individual timbers are 7m long and stand over 3m proud of seabed. Entangled with fishing gear. 23-NOV-1990 Iron debris seen at base of timbers, some of which are substantial tubes which could have been mistaken for cannon. It is now reported that the mediaeval side rudder [referred to in first report] was originally found about 8 miles S of this position and dumped close to the ROBIN HOOD.
