Full Description
A medieval pond was identified during an excavation carried out in 1977 and an evaluation carried out in 2013 at 20-22 Ospringe Street, Ospringe. The pond comprised a series of deposits and evidence for a raised surface potentially deposited to form a bank, pond lining, and a revetment wall associated with the pond. Finds associated with the pond included medieval (1200-1375 AD) pottery sherds.
Information from the report on the 1977 excavation stated that the base of the pond was originally waterlogged and a wooden bowl and 16th century pottery were recovered from the lower levels. However, the feature had dried out by the time of the 2013 excavation. (1)
