Site of a Second World War light anti aircraft (Diver) battery at Newington, Hythe. This was armed with 40mm guns, and was manned by 413 Battery of 143 Anti Aircraft Artillery Regiment when it was redeployed here from 26th August 1944. It was redeployed here from an unknown location, at which time it had been manned by B2/2847 RAF Regiment. It formed part of the 71 Light Anti Aircraft Artillery Brigade deployment.
