Summary

Site of a Second World War heavy anti aircraft (Diver) Battery in the Diver Box near the Coastguard Station, Eastchurch. It was armed with eight 3.7-inch Mark IIc guns, and was occupied from July 26th 1944, when it was manned by 497 Battery of 176 Anti Aircraft Artillery Regiment. It was also armed with six 40mm light anti aircraft guns which were manned by 24 Battery of the Royal Artillery Training Establishment from 26th July 1944, and designated `R1'. It formed part of 28 Anti Aircraft Artillery Brigade.
