Full Description
The faint traces of the Second World War heavy anti-aircraft battery were seen arranged around the north-eastern edge of a field against a former sea wall.
The site appeared as eight sub-circular marks (corresponding to each of the eight guns recorded at the site) arranged in an arc centred at TQ 8408 7645. A ninth single mark could be seen at the centre of the arc. These Diver sites were deployed rapidly in the summer of 1944, the structures often temporary. The site as seen on aerial photographs taken in May 1946 appeared as pale patches, possibly the traces of recently removed temporary structures and sandbagged emplacements. This site was mapped from these 1946 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (2)
