Vertical Datum: LAT Built: S P Austin and Son Year Built: 1907 Sunk by mine. 01-APR-1976 Lost en route Dieppe to Sunderland 16-NOV-1961 New wreck located 294deg 950ft from wreck in position 50 57 36N 001 07 36E, 350ft long drift sweep clear 57ft foul 60ft least echo sounder depth 62ft in 90 to 100ft 26-SEP-1977 in 50 57 41N, 001 07 21E, Depth 20.1m in 30-31m, scour 34m. height 9.1m, length 77m, lying 080/260 deg 31-AUG-1982 Dived on recently, thought to be SIR RUSSELL, bell located but not cleaned yet, has 4 inch gun on stern and 12 pounder on bow. 14-SEP-1982 Now identified as the DE FONTAINE.(1)
This ship struck a drifting mine on her port bow at 4.45 am. A fireman and donkeyman were killed in the explosion. The ship was immediately abandoned and sank 20 minutes later at 5.5Oam. The crew were picked up by the SS DOUGLAS and landed at Dover. Year Built: 1901 Builder: S P Austin and Sons Ltd.
