Summary

The site of Sandwich Bay coastal battery, an emergency battery built during the Second World War as part of Eastern Command's coastal defences. The battery mounted two 6-inch ex-naval guns and was armed until at least September 1944. Aerial photography from 1978 shows that the site is occupied by a golf course and seafront area and no features of the battery remain.

Full Description

Sandwich Bay coastal battery located at TR 364 576. This was an emergency battery built during the Second World War as part of Eastern Command's coastal defences. The battery mounted two 6-inch ex-naval guns and was armed until at least September 1944. It was manned by 233 and 338 Batteries of 563 Coast Regiment. (1)

Aerial photography from 1978 shows that the site is occupied by a golf course and seafront area and no features of the battery remain. (2)
