Full Description
The site of a First World War airfield at Dering Farm, Lydd, established in 1916 and operational until 1919. The site is east of the Second World War Advanced Landing Ground.
The 60 acre site was used as a landing ground and had minimal facilities. It was originally the home for an Artillery Co-operation Flight for use with the nearby firing ranges. It became a Class 3 Landing Ground in 1917 and was the base for the Artillery Co-operation School (ACS) and the original Flight based at Lydd became "B Flight" of this new unit. The airfield was also used by 112 Squadron, the local Home Defence unit as a night Emergency Landing Ground. The airfield closed in early 1919.
Note the site of the Second World War Advanced Landing Field is to the west of this site at TR015230. (1)
