Monument record TR 36 NE 2685 - Possible holloway discovered during pipeline trenching near Coldswood Road

During excavations associated with the installation of a pipeline between Margate and Broadstairs, In the southern part of Area 9 a A large spread deposit, possibly representing a holloway, was located. This was situated adjacent to and slightly overlapping the cremation cemetery enclosure and it is possible they are contemporary. This material accumulated in a hollow next to the cemetery, which is an association repeated in Area 14. Romano-British cemeteries are frequently
located outside settlements, alongside a road or thoroughfare.(1-3)
