Full Description
The earthwork remains of a probable post medieval drainage ditch and flanking banks, since levelled, can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This relatively straight ditch is situated on Halstow Marsh west of Egypt Bay and can be traced south east for over 300m from TQ 7692 7921 to TQ 7716 7900. A surviving ditch continues the line of this ditch north westwards and combined these two features would have joined the sea wall delph to Salt Fleet. The south eastern half of this ditch had been superseded by a winding natural water course by 1894 and is not depicted on the 1st edition 1:2500 Ordnance Survey map of this area. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-3)
