Full Description
A group of probably Medieval or Post Medieval chalk pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946, though they have been levelled on aerial photographs taken in 1983. The site is centred on TR 271 388 and extends over an area which measures 440 metres east-west and 140 metres north-south. The site comprises seven extractive pits which measure circa 25 metres across. These pits are likely to have been dug to extract the chalk seen on the geological map at this location. This site has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2) (1-2).
