Summary

The earthwork remains of a line of post medieval oyster beds are visible on aerial photographs 1947. These are positioned along the eastern edge of the former Egypt Saltings south of Egypt Bay. This is an area now behind the sea wall built after the 1953 floods and which covers the most northely group of oyster beds. The beds are a series of rectilinear pits and were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of a line of post medieval oyster beds are visible on aerial photographs 1947. These are positioned along the eastern edge of the former Egypt Saltings south of Egypt Bay (an area now behind the sea wall). Two bed are centred on TQ 7808 7881 and TQ 7783 7894 while the most northerly was at TQ 7776 790, a position now occupied by the sea wall built after the 1953 floods. The beds are a series of rectilinear pits and were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
