Summary

The earthworks of a bank on St. Mary's Marshes can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This bank can be traced for circa 165m (with a circa 16m gap near the centre) on the marshes south east of St. Mary's Bay. This earthwork may be the remains of a medieval sea wall or a post medieval bank that flanked a drain. The earthwork has since been levelled. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthworks of a bank on St. Mary's Marshes can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This bank can be traced for circa 165m (with a circa 16m gap near the centre) on the marshes south east of St. Mary's Bay and is centred on TQ 7971 7834. This earthwork may be the remains of a medieval sea wall or a post medieval bank that flanked a drain. The earthwork has since been levelled. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-2)
