Summary

The earthworks of a possible post medieval causeway can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This causeway, which may have also once functioned as a counter wall to the sea defences, is approximately 800m long. It runs south from St. Mary's Bay to the edge of the higher ground. This was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthworks of a possible post medieval causeway can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This causeway, which may have also once functioned as a counter wall to the sea defences, is approximately 800m long. It runs south from St. Mary's Bay to the edge of the higher ground (TQ 7959 7877 to TQ 7961 7794). This was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1)
