Full Description
The earthwork remains of a probable Second World War bomb crater seen at TQ 8155 7837 on the SE edge of St Mary's Marshes. The crater lies just within the line of the current sea wall within the limits of a wartime mine field which extended along the coast from the marsh to Allhallows. There are no indications of mines being set off by the bomb - as seen elsewhere within this field which does indicated that the explosion of the bomb post-dates the removal of the mines. This feature was mapped from 1952 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1)
