Summary

The earthwork remains of a possible former medieval or post medieval counter wall constructed as a flood defence at the edge of Allhallows marshes. The fragmented traces of several linear banks were seen on Environment Agency lidar imagery and mapped from Environment Agency lidar imagery taken in 2001 as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.

Full Description

The earthwork remains of a possible former medieval or post medieval counter wall constructed as a flood defence at the western edge of Allhallows marshes. The fragmented traces of several linear banks were seen centred at TQ 8523 7725, aligned NE-SW, and approximately 225m in length. It appears to cross and be part of a system of former counter walls which have been recorded on the current Ordnance Survey map. These banks were seen as earthworks Environment Agency lidar imagery surveyed in 2001 and mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1)
