Monument record TQ 87 NE 1214 - Post-medieval field boundary, Yantlet Creek

Summary

The site of a former mast located within a square enclosure was seen immediately south-west of Cockleshell Bay. The mast was mapped from 1951 RAF vertical photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. A site visit in June 2011 identified the concrete pads for the mast stays located close just south of the current sea wall.

Full Description

The site of a former mast located within a square enclosure was seen at TQ 8719 7821 immediately south-west of Cockleshell Bay. It is possible that the mast is associated with the Yantlet Velocity Testing Range (NMR monument number: 1541607) located to the south on the Yantlet Creek.

The mast was mapped from 1951 RAF vertical photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. A site visit in June 2011 identified the concrete pads for the mast stays located close just south of the current sea wall. (1)
