Full Description
The cropmark of an incomplete ring ditch, probably the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow seen at TQ 8250 7559 to the north-east of Stoke. The ring ditch is slightly asymmetrical with a diameter of between 21m and 23.5m. The is a break in the southern section of the ditch, but it is not clear if this is an entrance. A second ring ditch of a similar size lies immediately to the south-east of this (NMR TQ87NW 193). These ring ditches were both mapped from aerial photographs taken by English Heritage in June 2011as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1)
The two ring ditches are visible as cropmarks on the 1990 aerial photos. There is a suggestion of two parallel linears connecting the two ring ditches, though this could just be variations in the underlying geology.
