Full Description
TQ 7550 7338. A curved linear bank of uncertain date and function, located between Lodge Hill Armament Depot and Chattenden Wood, has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The bank is 262m long fairly low, and lies within the area of Lodge Hill Camp (Monument 1545549) on land which has been in intensive military use since at least the beginning of the twentieth century. It may be associated with a First World War redoubt located adjacent to its western end (Monument 1546165). The eastern end of the bank lies close to the Chattenden and Upnor Railway (Monument 1545587), and the curved shape of the bank suggests that it could be the course of an early tramway leading off the railway line.
