Full Description
A mid-16th century dump deposit containing medieval and early post-medieval pottery, animal and fish bones, and marine shell was identified during a 2009 watching brief carried out in Sandwich. The dump deposit was identified within a test pit located within an infilled channel (which connected the River Stour with the town moat during the medieval period), suggesting that by the early post-medieval period the watercourse was permanently dry and had become a dumping ground for refuse.
