Monument record TR 35 NW 946 - Mid-16th century dump deposit,

Summary

A mid-16th century dump deposit containing medieval and early post-medieval pottery, animal and fish bones, and marine shell was identified during a 2009 watching brief carried out in Sandwich. The dump deposit was identified within a test pit located within an infilled channel (which connected the River Stour with the town moat during the medieval period). "It is possible therefore that by the mid-16th century this part of the moat was permanently dry and had become a dumping area for refuse" (from the original report).
