Full Description
A mid-16th century dump deposit containing medieval and early post-medieval pottery, animal and fish bones, and marine shell was identified during a 2009 watching brief carried out in Sandwich. The dump deposit was identified within a test pit located within an infilled channel (which connected the River Stour with the town moat during the medieval period). "It is possible therefore that by the mid 16th century this part of the moat was permanently dry and had become a dumping area for refuse" (from the original report, 1). (1)
