Full Description

Town Hall/Guldhall, Guildhall Street, Folkestone as shown on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Edition O/S maps. The bulding is still in use as shown on the current O/S map. The building was opened in 1861 and continued to serve as the headquaters of Folkestone Borough Council for much of the 20th century until the council moved to a new civic centre in 1966. The ground floor of the building was converted for retail use in the late 1980s and the first floor was converted for use as a cinema at the same time. Then in 2011 the building was aquired by Folkestone Town Council and, following some restoration work, Folkestone Museum and a refurbished Council Chamber were opened in 2017.
