Full Description

TQ 635519 - A bronze, socketed axe, found 1950, by Mr. M.T. Lye, of Loose, whilst ploughing. The find spot is approx. 1750 feet south-east by east of Oxenhoath, West Peckham. The axe is four inches long with a blue-green patina; there is a small hole below the loop and on one side of the socket-rim an excrescence of bronze projects 1/8 inch for c 1/2 inch. Maidstone Museum Acc. No: 44 : 1954 (1) [TQ 63525187] Siting. Found by M.T. Lye, 20 Lancet Lane, Loose. (2) The siting given [ by authority 2 ] is accurate to within 10 yards. The discrepancy of the title in Arch. Cant., Vol.68 [ authority 1 ] is due to a printer's error. The axe is in Maidstone Museum. 930
