28-NOV-1623: Statement...that Sir Hen. Mainwaring refused to assist certain merchants of Sandwich in recovering the goods of a wrecked vessel, which had been embezzled by the inhabitants of the town. (1)

Bond of Derrick Hoston and Abm. Ruytinck of London, and Peter Mace of Sandwich, in 1100l, to indemnify Lord Zouch for restoring to Hoston a quantity of Brazil wood, recovered from the wreck of the ANNE LYON at Sandwich. (2)

Bond of Sam. Vischer and Rob. de la Bar, of London, in 2000l to indemnify Lord Zouch for restoration to them of sugar, cinnamon and other goods recovered from the above wreck...Statement by Thos. Fulnetby, Serjeant, that Sir Hen. Mainwaring, having in vain tried to get possession of some 8-9000l in merchants' money, the lading of the ship ANNE LYON, wrecked in the Cinque Ports, which was deposited in Deal Castle for the owners, tried to persuade him to tear the bags, and tumble the money together, as the merchants would then not know how to get it, being unable to prove which was their own.'
