Full Description
Market Buildings were erected in 1825/6 in the yard behind the Mitre Hotel (now The Muggleton Inn). The Corn Exchange was built in 1835 but not all of the adjoining market stalls were occupied and so a concert hall (now the Hazlitt Theatre) was erected in 1869. In 1900 some of the stalls at the High Street end were converted to a Fire Station which lasted until 1967. The present Fire Station is located on Loose Road, Maidstone.
The old Fire Station is not marked on any of the O/S maps.
Landmark, Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 map (OS 4th Edition, 1929-1952): Landmark Epoch 4 (Map). SKE30967.
