Monument record TQ 77 SE 1518 - Undated rectilinear enclosures, Hoo St Werburgh

TQ 7881 7276. Two contiguous rectilinear enclosures of uncertain date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and have been mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The enclosures probably represent Medieval or Post Medieval fields on the eastern outskirts of Hoo St Werburgh. They are defined by ditches and slight banks with dimensions of 43.3m by 36.1m and 41.6m by 39.5m. There are many orchards in the immediate vicinity, and these fields or enclosures may have been associated with fruit growing. (1-4)
