Full Description
Archaeology South-East undertook a historic building survey of the Risborough Ordnance Depot, Shorncliffe Garrison, Folkestone, in 2016 as a planning condition for a major redevelopment scheme. The depot formed part of the wider Shorncliffe military complex, which developed from an eighteenth-century fort and became a nationally significant army training centre. Constructed between 1899 and 1901, the depot originally contained military stores, workshops and administrative buildings arranged on an irregular grid. Its primary role was equipping troops for service while also supporting local military training and accommodation. By the late twentieth century the site had declined in importance, although parts of Shorncliffe remained in military use.(1)
