Full Description
'Dec. 4. Deal. Richard Watts to Williamson. The Virginia fleet all sailed yesterday afternoon. Last night the wind blew very hard at E.N.E and about 3 this mornng was a whole storm, about which time about half way between Dover and Deal ran aground the MERLIN galley (formerly the King's ship) from the Canaries. She was coming into the Downs when she met with this disaster. Much more than a topsail gail at E.N.E.' (1)
