Full Description
The earthworks of a twentieth century clay pit can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This clay pit was situated to the east of Abbots Court at TQ 7955 7234 and was linked to the brickworks south of the village (NMR 1545288). No clay pit is depicted by the Ordnance Survey in the 1930s. It can be seen in use in 1946 and by 1947 it appears abandoned and the works are partially filled with water. The water filled remains of this can still be seen on aerial photographs taken in 2007. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-4)
