[Name centred TQ 62955408] Romano-British burials found [NAT] (1) [TQ 62995405] R.B. Interments [Sited by ring, c.60m. in diameter]. (2) During excavations for stone, on the right of the road from Peckham Hurst to Crouch, several urns were discovered containing bones and at another spot a quern of conglomerate and a bronze bowl with handles. The wood is being grubbed to be replanted. (3) Sir Frances Grey is causing some of his old woods to be grubbed and in the course of this work in the parish of West Peckham, urns and ashes have been discovered indicative of Roman or Saxon interments. Near the top of a hill a bronze vessel of large size was found. Its body was destroyed by the workmen's tools but two massive ring handles are in the possession of Mrs Dalison of Hamptons. (6) 'The exact site is uncertain... The finds were made a long time ago...' [Note by name-collecter added ... (c) (7) No further information was gained on these burials but a small disused stone-quarry centred TQ 62955408 probably marks their site (see auth. 3). (8)
