Monument record TQ 65 SW 24 - Earthwork, Platt near Mereworth

Summary

At the end of the 19th century an earthwork was reported in the north corner of Great Comp, close to the house and near the Ightham Road. It was noted that the woodlands were bound on the eastern side by a sunken road and on the remaining sides by a wide trench. The trench on the west side was 6 feet deep (1.83m) for 200 paces with lesser visible evidence on the north side. It is possible that the present woodland extended further north at the time.
