Full Description
A private steam yacht hired as an armed boarding ship by the Admiralty on May 6, 1915, sank following collision. Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: SWD The MARCELLA was used as an armed boarding vessel and was lost in 1916 after a collision. 07-JUN-1972 Small wreck approximately 120 tons, clear of superstructure. Small guns fore and aft and ammunition locker in stern. Numerous 'coaster' size anchors and cables wrapped around wreck. Position 51 14 46.0N, 001 26 06.0E (Mr Beazley, GB Diving Services June 1972). 08-AUG-1974 Position 51 14 44.0N, 001 26 08.0E. Sweep clear 4.4m, foul 4.6. Good contact on side scan sonar trace. Lies ENE/WSW and about 20m long. 12-SEP-1984 Wreck silted up. Bow intact, stern heavily damaged. (East Kent Maritime Trust, 23-JUL-1984).(2)
