Full Description
The MONARDA foundered in the Thames Estuary, 1941. 06-JAN-1958 Dispersal operations in progress. MAY-1958 Dispersed by using 86 depth charges. Bar swept numerous bits of wreckage up to 5ft in length were reported as scattered on the seabed and in craters clear at 2ft from bottom 30-JUN-1958 Bar swept clear at 2ft from bottom. 01-FEB-1959 Swept numerous pieces of wreckage none more than 2ft high. 28-APR-1959 Lucas wire drift sweep dries foul at 1ft. Least depth by echo sounder 4ft in 7ft. Depth of scour 10ft. Seabed sand. 02-NOV-1961 Wreck was a drifter built 1916 and requisitioned from WP Duthie. Drifter beached after collision in 1941 on Cant Shoal east of South Boom Head. The position of this wreck was uncertain until found by a fishing boat 1955 when it was fixed and surveyed. In 1958 dispersal operations were undertaken by the Admiralty results of which are uncertain but it is believed that small pieces were spread over a wide area. 08-MAY-1969 Reported as no longer in existence (1).
