Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: SWS The HOUSTON CITY was mined and beached in 1940 after she was attacked by German aircraft. 02-NOV-1940 Salvage attempts were abandoned. 26-NOV-1940 Stranded in 51 28 52N 001 00 06E. 10-MAY-1947 Drift swept after dispersal. Clear at 25ft, least echosounder depth 27ft scour depth 48ft. 23-MAY-1957 In 51 28 51N 001 00 12E. Wire sweep [swd] - clear at 26ft. Scour depth about 36ft. 14-MAR-1962 Located, least echosounder depth 34 in general depth 43ft. 27-JUN-1968 Examined in charted position, least echosounder depth 31 in general depth 20-50ft. Scour depth 41ft. Poor sonar contact - wreck buried in own scour. Disturbed surface - probably caused by steep bank close N. 09-JUL-1969 Drift swept [SWS] in 51 28 56N 001 00 12E. Swept clear at 27, foul at 28ft, least echosounder depth 29 in general depth 30- 38ft. Scour depth 40-46ft. 29-DEC-1978 Swept clear at 8.1, Foul at 8.3m, least echosounder depth 9.3 in general depth 10m. Scour depth 13.5m. Consists of much wreckage scattered over area approx 100x50m [N/S]. 01-OCT-1992 In ogb coords 608482e, 180193n [51 28 54N 001 00 10.5E] least echosounder depth 9.3 in general depth 10-15m. (1)
