Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: SWS The AVON was mined in 1916.
25-SEP-1946 Swept clear at 41ft foul at 42ft. Located by a/s position 101.5Deg 2.68M from Tongue Sand Tr. Tracing E7934 with curator.
08-JUL-1950 Clear to 48ft.
10-AUG-1950 Oropesa sweep at 45ft least depth 48ft located by echo sounder, position 51 29 00N 001 26 18E.
15-MAR-1962 Drift sweep clear 44ft foul 46ft. Least echosounder depth 47ft in 58-63ft, scour 74-76ft. Large wreck easily picked up on the 162 when sounding.
25-JAN-1967 Found on sounding line.
15-MAY-1969 Swept clear at 12.5m (41ft) foul at 12.8m (42ft)
14-JUL-1969 Two boat drift sweep cleared 12.5m (41ft) foul 12.8m (42ft) in a general depth 18-19m (59-62ft) in charted position.
29-JUL-1969 Drift sweep wreck clear at 12.5m, wreck foul at 12.8m. Least depth over wreck by echo 13.3m in general depth of the seabed by echo 18-19m. Depth of the scour by echo 23m. Seabed fairly even. A poor a/s contact despite size, position 51 28 59n 001 26 19e.
22-SEP-1971 Least depth by close echosounder 14.2m (46.75ft) in 19m scour 22.8m, position 51 28 59N 001 26 18E.
04-JUN-1974 Position 51 29 00N 001 26 21E, least depth 14.6m In 19m. Scour 23m.
05-MAY-1977 Large wreck, easy to find. Clear 12.7m, Foul 13.1m. General depth 20m, scour (S of wreck) 23m, echosounder depth 13.7m, position as charted.
18-OCT-1977 In 51 29 00N 001 26 20E, least echosounder depth 14m in general depth 19.2m. Scour 23m, side scan sonar height 6.56m. Lies SW/NE on its (stbd?) side, bows NE.
07-MAY-1980 In 51 29 01N 001 26 20E. Swept clear at 12.5, foul at 12.8m. Least echosounder depth 13.3 in general depth 19m. Scour 24m, side scan sonar height 9.4m. Large wreck lying NNE/SSW. Least depth near mid-point. Considerable scour on S and W side.
02-NOV-1983 In 51 29 00N 001 26 20E, least echosounder depth 14 in general depth 20m. Scour depth 25m. Side scan sonar height 5.9m. Large intact wreck lying NNE/SSW with least depth amidships. Considerable scour for over 100m to the S and E of the wreck.
