Full Description

Vertical Datum: LAT 24-AUG-1955 Area of minimum diameter of 1700ft around position 51 29 54N 001 05 18E swept as near to the bottom as heavy growth of weed and uneveness of bottom would permit. Even 4ft from bottom at each boat, the sweep wire fouled and cleared at frequent intervals. 16 fouls were obtained, 3 of these in close proximity of reported position of wreck. Weed probable cause of all fouls as the sweep wire always cleared itself before a fix could be obtained with the wire up and down. No sign of wreck observed by echosounder. 30-JAN-1970 Examined by asdic and echosounder. Least echosounder depths of peaks: [a] 7.1m, [b] 6.2m. Close sounding carried out in vicinity of charted position. Small peaks which could be dispersed wreckage but are most probably small bottom features found in positions [a] 234degs 900ft, [b] 277deg 500ft from the charted position. 09-APR-1990 Barge, CENTURION possibly. Ng co-ords 614334e, 182226n.
