Full Description
Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: SWS The BRADGLEN was sunk by mine with loss of 9 lives, en route Jacksonville to London in 1940. Cargo included spelter, steel resin and pig iron. 07-MAR-1952 Salvage operations taking place. 25-MAY-1959 Taut wire sweep clear at 55ft, foul at 59ft general depth 7-11fms, least depth by echo sounder 56ft. Scour 76ft. Sea bed mud and sand. Position as stated 51 31 12N 001 03 12E was searched for but not located. As it was dispersed in 1950 and salvage operations carried out in 1952-1953, it is unlikely that this is the BRADGLEN as position is too far different. Peak no 1 51 30 59N 001 03 22E peak no 2 51 31 02N 001 03 20E. Peaks are not wrecks but bumps, several of which exist along S side of Mouse Shoal. Peak no 1 clear at 48ft foul at 51ft least echosounder depth 8fms. Peak no 2 clear 45ft foul 46ft least echosounder depth 46ft. 14-MAR-1962 Scour to 75ft with large bump probably sand (47ft) to north found slightly NE of charted position but able to fix visually. 25-MAR-1965 Least depth by echo over the wreck 48ft in general depth over sea bed by echo 54ft-60ft. 27-JUN-1968 Located in position 51 31 01N 001 03 24E. Ship drift sweep clear at 52ft foul at 54ft, least depth by echo sounder 56ft, general depth of seabed 64ft. Scour 82ft. Wreck appears to have sunk in scour and is difficult to locate. No sonar contact obtained during an extensive search of the area. 11-DEC-1975 Wreck fixed in position 51 31 00N 001 03 24E. Drift sweeping by single vessel. Wreck cleared at 16.2m. Fouled at 16.6m. General depth of sea bed by echo sounder 19-20m. Least echosounder over wreck 18.8m. Depth of scour by echo sounder 26m. There is a very small area of wreckage which is not easy to locate. The scour hole is mainly to the west.
