Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: SWS The SPAARNDAM was mined while on passage Tampico to Rotterdam, via London and Antwerp, 1939. 12-DEC-1939 Position 018 deg, 2.41M from Tongue Light Vesesl. Shows at all states tide. 05-SEP-1945 Mast reported no longer showing. 01-AUG-1950 Examined in 51 33 03N 001 24 22E. Wreck dries 1ft. 07-FEB-1952 Salvage operations in hand. 22-NOV-1954 Salvage operations completed. 16-AUG-1955 Lucas sweep following salvage ops. Clear at 6, foul at 7ft, least echosounder depth 9 in general depth 38ft. Seabed sand, position 51 33 09N 001 24 18E. 12-JUL-1960 Extensively examined, least echosounder depth obtained 14ft - not necessarily shoalest part. Scour depth now 42ft to sw of wreck. 07-MAY-1969 In 51 33 07N 001 24 22E. 2-Ship drift sweep - clear at 2.6, Foul at 3m. Least echosounder depth 3.3 in general depth 10m. Scour depth 15m. Lies on e edge of a 3-4m bank and no satisfactory sonar contact obtained as wreckage spread over area 300ft long N/S with a number of 4m peaks. 03-JUL-1974 Examined in 51 33 06N 001 24 20E. Swept clear at 2.4, Foul at 3m. Least echosounder depth 3 in general depth 10m. Scour 13.4m Deep. Large area wreckage lying N/S - approx 72mx30m, at widest part. Scour to the E. 04-AUG-1987 Dived on in 51 33 07N 001 24 22E. Large wreck, lying upright with bows S. Evidence of previous salvage. Propellor missing. Five holds - all full. Depth over wreck 35ft in general depth 50ft. 26-OCT-1989 In 51 33 07N 001 24 23E. Swept clear at 3.1, Foul at 3.3m, least echosounder depth 3.5 in general depth 10.9m. Scour depth 20.9m, side scan sonar height 6.9m. Lies on edge of bank in own scour, orientated N/S. Good sonar contact and produces large magnetometer deflection.
