Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: SWS The HAWRECKSDALE went aground on Longsands during NE gale while on passage Hamburg to Melbourne, 1899. Cargo included 500 pianos. 09-MAY-1922 Wreck shown in 51 33 15N 001 19 52E on survey c8934. 15-FEB-1928 Wreck of MV HAWRECKSDALE in 51 33 15N 001 19 52E. 07-JUL-1930 Wreck, with 2 masts above LW, shown on survey. 04-OCT-1933 Masts no longer visible. 19-FEB-1951 Stranded wreck in 51 33 15N 001 19 52E. 23-JUN-1958 Stranded wreck, dries 1ft, in 51 33 15N 001 19 52E. 12-JUL-1960 Not found at LWS. Considered non-existent. 17-OCT-1967 Located in new position by both ship and boat. Least echosounder depth dries 3ft. In general depth 7ft. Scour depth 10ft. Lies NW/SE. Shoalest part is stump of mast near SE end. An iron bar is the most prominent feature at NW end. Lies in an area of sandwaves. 30-APR-1969 In 51 33 14N 001 19 55E, least echosounder depth dries 0.4 in general depth 1.2m. Scour depth 4.2m. Wreck observed to consist of a few broken ribs and frames. 03-JUL-1974 Examined in 51 33 15N 001 19 53E. Swept clear at dries 0.2. Foul at 0.5M. Least echosounder depth .9 in general depth 1.6m. Scour depth 3.9m. Located by bottom wire drag. 02-APR-1987 Now shown as stranded wreck, drying 0.2M, in 51 33 15.3N 001 19 53.3E. 25-MAY-1991 In position ng coords 630900e, 189229n. Least depth obtained was 0.7M some 15m WSW of charted position. Wreckage extends 100m NW/SE and is apparently uncovering. No obvious scour. Lies 170m from current channel edge. 20-AUG-1991 Shown as swept dries 0.2m. 30-SEP-1991 Mast dries 2.4m In 51 33 15.5N 001 19 50E. 15-OCT-1991 The wreck is apparently scouring clear of the river bed and moving in its scour-hole. Some other debris seen on surface at low water. Ogb coords quoted convert to a position about 66m SE of mast. 09-APR-1992 At LW. Spar not seen, but possible wreckage observed just awash - position not determined. Main part of wreck located using side scan sonar between ogb coords 630820e, 189570n and 630915e, 189240n. Other pieces of wreckage possibly exist up to 15m westward of main wreckage, which lies 155m N of fairway at closest part. 07-JUL-1992 Wreck reported to be moving into channel, as channel moves northward. Wreck, dangerous to navigation, with mast drying 2.7m. Shown in 51 33 15N 001 19 50E. 04-AUG-1992 In 51 33 15.5N 001 19 53E. Least depth obtained [spot soundings] 1.6 in general depths 13.6m to S of wreck; 11.8m to N. Wreck lies 118/298 degrees. Approx dimensions 85x18m.
