Full Description

The ALABAMA was mined in 1916. 01-MAY-1922 Least depth by sweep 32ft. 18-OCT-1929 Swept in charted position no trace found swept at LW to depth 90ft over area 4 cables by 3 cables. 08-DEC-1970 Several sonar contacts obtained on a possible obstruction 11.5 Cables SE of charted position area. Not close sounded. Not found during area sonar sweep. Charted position of wreck lies on E limit of area swept by sonar. One line on course 140deg passed through position and others parallel 800yds and 1600yds W 2m in length. 4 possible wreck echoes obtained at about 145deg 1.15M from charted position in 51 33 11N 001 41 39E but not examined. 04-JAN-1971 Extensive search of area made using side scan and fishermans sonar. No trace found in area about 1M by 8C searched. 15-JAN-1974 Close sounded and examined, very small peak found but not considered a wreck and small side scan sonar contact not indicative of a wreck.
