Full Description
Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: SWS UC68 was torpedoed and sunk by British submarine C7 in 1917. 28-JAN-1969 Submarine, approximately 80m long, located and dived on. Lies upright. Possibly UC68. 29-AUG-1985 Examined in 51 14 21.0N, 001 52 14.0E. Least echosounder depth 33 in general depth 38m. Scour depth 39m. Side scan sonar height 7.5m, length about 40m. Lying approx N/S. Retain charted depth as what appears to be a mast clearly seen on side scan sonar trace. 01-JUL-1986 Examined in 51 14 17.0N, 001 52 17.E. Least echosounder depth 30.8 in general depth 38m. Apparently intact and upright. 23-APR-1989 Examined in 51 14 17.5N, 001 52 17.0E. Swept clear at 31.3, foul at 31.9m. Least echosounder depth 32.2 in general depth 38m. Slight scour 0.5m deep. Side scan sonar height 7.3m, Length approximately 55m. Lies 010/190 degrees. Apparently intact and nearly upright. High point amidships clearly visible on sonar trace. 16-OCT-1992 Dived on in 51 14 21.5N, 001 52 16.5E (GPS). Confirmed wreck of German submarine with small conning tower. Two hatches on stern are open. Plating of saddle tanks are missing and internal bulkheads are visible. Now thought not to be the UC68 (R Verpoorte, 29-SEP-1992).
Submarine now believed to possibly be the U-37. (2)
