Full Description

Vertical Datum: LAT The KLAR was mined carrying 590 tons of cargo, 1915. The Belgian SS YVONNE also sank very close to this position in 1940. Only one wreck found during survey. 29-APR-1932 Small obstruction located in 51 21 04.0N, 001 32 57.0E. Least echosounder depth 34ft in general depth 35 to 40ft. 15-FEB-1961 Wire sweep - clear at 29, foul at 30ft. Least echosounder depth 35 in general depth 36ft. Only one wreck found in this area. 18-MAR-1968 Examined using sonar and echosounder. Least echosounder depth 36ft in general depth 34 - 38ft. Scour depth 46ft. Very small wreck found in charted position. 30-JAN-1974 Examined in 51 21 06.0N, 001 32 54.0E. Swept clear at 9.2, foul at 9.4m (probably the seabed). Least echosounder depth 11.3 in general depth 11.5m. Large scour, depth 13.6m, with wreckage in it. 09-JUL-1986 Examined 51 21 03.0N, 001 32 49.0E. Least echosounder depth 10.9 in general depths 11.2 to 12m. Scour depth 13m. Broken up and scattered. 17-OCT-1991 Not found during search using sonar and magnetometer.

Struck a mine laid by the German submarine UC-1 and sank at the mouth of the River Thames. A magnetic anomaly was noted at this position during a geophysical survey of the area in 2004/5. An additional anomaly was noted SSW of the wreck and thought to be part of the same (2) [though it could be SS Yvonne].
