Method of Fix: HF Horizontal Datum: OGB Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: Swept by wire WINKFIELD was mined in Thames Estuary, 1941 (WWIISL). She was built in 1919 and owned at the time of loss by Britain India Steam Nav. Co. (Dictionary of Disasters at sea). 26-JUN-1941 Dangerous wreck, 2 masts visible, in 51 34 12.0N, 001 09 17.0E. 15-SEP-1949 Dispersed. Clear at 45ft. 19-DEC-1949 Clear at 42ft, foul at 44ft. Seabed 60ft. Tracing held. 07-MAR-1952 Salvage operations in progress. 18-FEB-1953 Salvage operations discontinued. 04-OCT-1957 Taut wire sweep by 2 after salvage operations. Clear at 53ft. Foul 54ft. Seabed 66ft. Least echosounder 56ft. Scour 108ft. Seabed sand. Position 51 34 13.0N, 001 09 17.0E. 03-MAY-1966 Least echosounder 58ft. Seabed by echosounder 62ft. Scour by echosounder 97ft. 11-OCT-1973 Position 51 34 13.0N, 001 09 20.0E. Swept by wire clear at 49.4ft, foul 50.1ft. Least echosounder 54.2ft in 65ft. Scour 110ft. Large wreck causing surface turbulence on ebb. Lies SE/NW. Main part of wreck (under 60ft depth) approximately 150ft long, but wreckage over 400ft in length. Main scour NE of wreck.
