Full Description
(TR 182454) Two Iron Age coins discovered by metal detectors near to North Elham c 1990:
TWRA-WRENC-IA-11 This is a Cast Bronze Potin of the Trinovantes dated to c 100-90 BC. It measures 16mm in diameter and weighs 2.42 gm. On the obverse is a head of Apollo facing left and on the reverse a bull charging right. The coin is a Trinovantian A and is corroded.
TWRA-WRENC-IA-12 This is of AE and is a Siculo-Punic coin dated to c 320 BC probably representing a late Iron Age import. It measures 15.5-16mm in diameter and weighs 2.42 gm. On the obverse is a head of Tanit facing left, on the revers a horse standing right with a palm tree in the background. Catalogue reference: Corpus Nummorum Siculorum, Kartago 20 series. There is some corrosion on the obverse. (1)
