Built on the eastern half of Indented Line No.2 in 1899, although proposed in 1824, four concrete gun emplacements for 12-pr. QF guns, with underlying magazines. The eastern two were still in use by 1940 and had added brick gunhouses and shelters. All the guns have gun holdfasts 1.2m in diameter, and cartridge recessess in the parapet along the northern side of the walkway, which runs along the southern edge of the emplacements. Below the emplacements are rooms marked as war shelters on a plan dating to 1923, with store rooms and shelters projecting southwards. The western two have collapsed but the others are intact.(8)

Albemarle Battery located at TQ 913 755 on the northern front of Sheerness defences. The battery was operational by 1914 at the latest and mounted four 12-pounder guns. (9-10)

Albemarle Battery survives in complete condition. The emplacements and battery observation post are in very good condition and over four ancillary buildings and structures remain. Coastal artillery searchlights survive to the east and west. (4)
