Full Description
A number of pillboxes were constructed across the Western Heights in the 20th century to cover the approaches to the heights, these are generally inter-visible. This example is a Type D trapezoidal Quad and is located near the junction of the Citadel and the Western Outworks, facing north-west. There is an opening 0.69m wide in the south-east wall, close to the east corner. The south-west and north-east walls each contain two embrasures, 1.60m wide, which splay externally towards the corners of the pillbox, but have perpendicular inner faces. (1-3)
