Excavation by the Lower Medway Group at the Zoar Chapel site, later developed as a petrol station c.50m East of the railway bridge on the South side of Watling Street at Strood near Rochester [approx TQ 792692] revealed 1st to 2nd century pottery, plus possible later forms. [Unpublished pottery report]. (1) 1994- Excavation reveals 2 standing buildings with RB floors visible. (2) 1976- Poss. sill beam to a MD building located. Chalk floor and plaster revealed, the latter painted grey-blue.(3)

Report on excavation from 1976. Two probable Roman floor levels were located, relating to the 1st - 2nd century and the 3rd - 4th century, as well as medieval layers dating to between the 12th - 14th centuries. Evidence was also found associated with the demolished Zoar Chapel. Finds included pottery sherds, coins and metal work. (4-5)
