[TQ 659666] "A small vase of Durobrivian ware" found in Henley Wood, Luddesdown. Also in the wood "is a rampart, square in form enclosing a large acreage." (1) Henley's Wood, Luddesdown. A slight banking of polygonal outline, with a corresponding shallow rounded fosse on the outside. "A doubtful enclosure which may have been occupied as a British village settlement, or may be a piece of land imparked in feudal days." (2) Small Castor urn found in Henley Wood. Another urn is said to have been found in a square earthwork here. V.C.H. makes ref. to (1), but note that (1) does not say the urn was found in the earthwork. (3) A boundary bank and ditch most probably marking the original extent of Henley Wood. No further information was gained regarding the provenance or present whereabouts of the urn.
