Full Description

In the Admiralty Court of the Cinque Ports the case was heard of a sloop from Dunkirk which anchored alongside the ship Sibbel on the 'Northsands Head' near Dover. Their cables became entangled and the two ships became in danger of being driven on the Goodwins. The sloop refused advice and help from the ship, but her crew abandoned her and went aboard the Sibbel. The sloop sank and perished in the night. The case had been the subject of considerable litigation with the master of the sloop blaming the loss on the master of the ship. The Admiralty Court, however, found in favour of the master of the ship and against Peter wilson master of the sloop.
